MARCH 30, 2003

The March meeting was convened on Sunday, March 30, 2003 at 6:00 p.m., at the Ala Wai Palladium Ballroom.

1.  Attendance:  Federation Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, and Festival Registrar.  The following clubs were represented:  Pali Twirlers, Square Wheelers and Hayseeds, and Tsunamis.

2.  Minutes:  The minutes of the February 2003, meeting were accepted as submitted.

3.  Treasurer's Report:  The opening balance as of 2/1/03 was corrected for deposit record errors and changed to $872.07.  Income for the year was $3,264.96 and expenses were $523.90, leaving a balance on hand as of this date of $3,613.13.  After deducting a $2,000 loan from D. Lemon, made to avoid bank service charges, our current net worth is $1,613.13. Club dues have been collected from the Square Wheelers ($380), the High Hopes ($280), Kovacs & Hermlund ($20), Hi Lo Plus ($100), Pali Twirlers ($170) and Tsunamis ($20). A cash flow report and Federation Check Register report were also distributed. David noted that he had received an e-mail questioning the fact that when dues of $10.00 are paid for each member, those that belong to two clubs pay twice. Dave explained that annual dues are paid by each club (not the member) and are a club responsibility based on their membership numbers.

4.  Committee Reports

            a.   39th Hawaii State Festival:

                  (1) Chairman's Report: David reported that the Pali Twirlers have again agreed to host the Luau on the Bay on the Tuesday preceding the Festival and the Square Wheelers will again have their Wednesday night Trail-In Dance.  The Tsunamis are considering hosting a post-convention Whale Watching cruise on Sunday following the festival, but without dancing this time.  Dave reminded Tim that he must confirm his plans before April 20th in order to be published in the flyer. The Square Wheelers' regular Sunday night Club dance after the festival will also be included in the program as a Trail-out dance.

5.  Correspondence:  David reported that he had received a letter from ASCAP acknowledging receipt of the letter canceling our membership and thanking us for our participation in the past.

6.  Old Business:  None

7.  New Business:

a.  Special Dances and events:  Dave asked representatives to discuss with their clubs ideas for creating special dances to add variety to our club nights.  Special tee shirts or dangles could be made available for unique accomplishments such as dancing in the sand, in order to create more interest and excitement among the clubs.

b.  Federation picnic:  It was agreed to have a Federation picnic again in August at Bellows Field.  Dave will ask Tim Rogers to reserve a space.  He said that the electric problem has been solved by the availability of a 12-volt system that can be run from the car.

c.   Federation Aircraft:  The Chairman noted that he attends every Club Festival weekend on the Neighbor Islands, six round trips a year.  With the increased security situation, trips consume several hours of valuable time getting checked in.  He noted that he is a licensed Air Line Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor, with years of experience flying the islands.  He requested the Federation provide fifty percent of the costs to purchase the Chairman a light twin aircraft (Beech Baron) to provide expedited transportation for up to six passengers.   The motion was approved with funding not to exceed $50,000 subject to Federation membership’s approval.

8.  Club Reports and Activities: Future events are listed on the Web Page, recorded on the Hot Line, and printed in the Coming Events flyer.

            a.  St Patrick’s Day Festival:  David reported that the Rainbeaus ‘N Belles dance held at UH Hilo in March was a big success and had an excellent caller.

            b.  Square Wheelers:  A new beginners' class is being held on Wednesdays at the Ala Wai Community Park Recreation Center on Kapiolani Blvd. from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. Class has eleven students, some of who have danced before.  Club members: please try to participate as angels.
