Subj: June ’98 Federation Meeting Minutes

The June 1998 Federation Meeting was convened at 4:35 p.m. on June 14th, 1998 at the Kahala Community Center.

  1. Attendance: The Federation Chairman and Secretary were in attendance. The following clubs were represented: Aloha Paradise Dancers, Hayseeds, Diamond Heads & Sides, Pali Twirlers, and North Shore Twirlers.
    1. A total of 8 Federation members and guests were in attendance.
    2. The Chairman opened the meeting and made welcoming remarks.
  2. Minutes: The minutes for the May 1998 Regular Meeting were reviewed. The minutes were accepted as published.
  3. Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer’s report was distributed for review. The balance was $1,125.20 in checking and $5,218.73 in savings. The Treasurer’s report was accepted subject to audit.
  4. Committees: Each Committee Chairperson present gave a brief outline of their duties and progress.
    1. Advertising – chairperson was unavailable.
    2. Social Calendar – copies were distributed at the meeting.
    3. Coming Events – copies were distributed at the meeting.
    4. Hotline Coordinator – chairperson was unavailable.
    5. The Convention Chairman, Mr. Robert Keller, was not able to make the meeting. Dave Lemon did state that they are in the process of distributing flyer and registration forms. A caller invitation to bring group tours and set up accommodations has 253 people set up to date. Gil Gilbert is the registrar and finances are maintained through the federation. A convention policy letter is being worked and will be given next month in draft form.
  5. Correspondence: Numerous visitor requests/questions on the convention.
  6. Old Business:
    1. September – National Square Dance Month
      1. Chairman’s Letter – being distributed with minutes.
      2. Club Activities – each club needs to actively promote activities to seek new participants.
      3. Committee Heads/Volunteers are needed.
      4. Formal request made to pass on information given at the federation meeting to the clubs concerning the possibility of absorbing some of the class costs for new dancers.
    2. Revised By Laws are still being worked.
    3. Address Books have been distributed. Let us know if you need additional copies. Corrections are being requested for the November update.
  7. New Business:
    1. Pali Twirlers Convention Trail-In Dance – see flyer.
      1. They need 50 + people attending the dance to break even. A motion was made and carried to support the Pali Twirlers.
  8. Club Reports: Each Club Representative was given an opportunity to detail their club activities. Special items of note included:
    1. Aloha Paradise Dancers have invited the A-1 students to dance with them. Also, they will be dark June 25th.
    2. Pali Twirlers are participating in the 4th of July parade in Kailua. All are welcome to join them. There will be a Pool Party/Potluck picnic afterward at the Schneiderman’s.
    3. Deadline for Mauna Kea Roundup extended to July 15th. See Flyer –Get the word out. Encourage attendance.
    4. National Convention in Charlotte, NC June 25-27th. Approximately six couples plan to attend.
    5. USA West Convention in San Francisco in July.
    6. Hayseeds will be dark the 27th of June.
  9. Next Meeting: The next meeting of the federation will be held Sunday July 12th at the Kahala Recreation Center (4:30 PM).
  10. Meeting was adjourned at approximately 5:15 p.m.
