The Federation has registered with the State Department of Consumer
Affairs for a business license.
b.
NSDD Ad for 2004 Festival: We
have received invitation from the National Square Dance Directory to publish
our usual ad for the 2004 Festival. It
has been discounted 50%.
Although we will not know until after the 2003 Festival that there will
be a festival in 2004, this ad is crucial to our attendance and must be placed
before Aug. 15th to be effective in apprising 2003 dancers of our festival.
c. Orders for 2003
National Square Dance Directory: Dave
announced that the directory is available for half-price if 12 copies are
ordered ($5 for 12 and $9.95 if ordered singly).
He asked anyone interested to contact him.
6.
Old Business:
a.
Club Roster updates: The
secretary reported that updates to the 2001 Address Book have been completed
and will be distributed with the July minutes.
b.
2002 National Convention: Dave
reported that 8,000 dancers attended the Convention held in St. Paul, MN, and
that he had seen the Seemans and Michiyo Porter from Japan there.
However, the Showcase Of Ideas’ display tables this year were
inconveniently located and the Hawaii table
was not well attended.
7.
New Business:
a . USA West Convention,
Boise, Idaho: Tim and Melissa
Voss and the Fullaways from Maui will be attending the Convention in August. Our promotional supplies will
be sent to Boise for Dave Fullaway's distribution there.
Although the option existed of moving the display supplies used at the
National Convention to the USA West Convention, it has been decided not to do
so because of logistical and cost considerations.
b. 2003 National Convention, Oklahoma City:
Dave announced that a packet will be mailed out to each club with the
July minutes on the 52nd National Convention in Oklahoma City.
c. Federation Beach Party & Picnic:
The annual Federation beach party and picnic will be held at Bellows
Field on Saturday, August 17th. Tim
Rogers is arranging for gate access. Soft
drinks and utensils will be furnished. Ideas
for games and activities are requested. Bellows
is now charging $50 (non-refundable) for clean-up, so a $2 fee will be
assessed to cover that charge. Lunch
will begin promptly at 12:00 Noon.
8.
Club Reports and Activities: Future
events are listed on the Web Page, recorded on the Hot Line, and printed in
the Coming Events flyer.
a. Maui Clubs: Information
on the annual Maui No Ka Oi Festival is available on the Web page. Steve
Minkin, caller and cuer from California, will be featured.
b. Big Island Clubs:
Janet reported that she had heard from Bill Yoeman who has been
conducting classes twice a week. He reported three new club members for his
caller-run clubs.
c. Pali Twirlers: Joan
reported that the 4th of July Parade was successful, but that we did not win
first place this year. The fact
that our sound was not very audible may have detracted from our presentation.
Dave said he would address the sound problem for next year's parade.
d. Square Wheelers and Hayseeds: Dave reported that the Square Wheelers will graduate their
students on August 4. On August 11 they will begin dancing basic mainstream
with introduction to Plus from 6:30 to 8:00 and Plus dancing from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. The club is asking
experienced dancers to show up for the early mainstream dance.
e.
Tsunamis: Nothing new to report.
f. USA West: Tim
raised the question of whether Hawaii would be interested in hosting a USA
West convention. Dave said that
he has turned over a National Convention bid package to the Hawaii Visitor and
Convention Bureau to look at and
they have asked for an opportunity to review the USA West requirements.
. Dave indicated that
the National requirements
and perks may be too expensive for Hawaii to host a convention.
9.
Next Meeting:
The next meeting time and location will be announced at a later date
10.
Adjournment:
The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
Respectfully
